چکیده
The prime objective of this research is to study and examine the groundwater decline and its effect on the quality of groundwater in aquifer of Torbat Jam plain for a period of 19 years. Torbat Jam plain stretching over an area of about 3500 km2, in northeastern part of Iran. The plain is considered as a semi-arid to arid zone. It has gained substantial importance because of agricultural prosperity. Almost all water consumption needs are met from groundwater resources. In the last decades, rapid population growth coupled with agricultural expansion has significantly increased demand on groundwater resources. Large increases in water demand with little recharge have strained groundwater resources resulting in declines in water levels and deterioration of groundwater quality in the major parts of the plain. It's worth mentioning th00at the paramount cause of sharp drop in the groundwater table in recent years is conclusively attributed to pumping out of well water which confirmedly exceeds the level of the natural recharge. As a result, the average water level, for instance, has dropped from 1036.47 m to 1002.75 m during the years from 1987 to 2006 with an annual rate of declining about 1.77 m.

Simulation of groundwater flow in the stead...
متن کاملAssessment of Saltwater Pollution in Azarshahr Plain Groundwater, Iran: Conjugating GALDIT Method and Geostatistics
Overutilization of groundwater resources can put their quality under stress. It could be base on rapid declination in groundwater level leading to salt water intrusion in the coastal aquifers. The objective of this study was to map the vulnerability of salt water intrusion of the Urmia Lake, Iran to nearby coastal aquifer (Azarshahr) using GALDIT method. The GALDIT index based on six parameters...
متن کاملForecasting of Groundwater Table and Water Budget under Different Drought Scenarios using MODFLOW Model (Case Study: Garbaygan Plain, Fars Province, Iran)
Groundwater drought is a natural hazard that develops when groundwater systems are affected by climatical drought, when climatical drought occures, first groundwater recharge, later groundwater levels and groundwater discharge decrease. The origin of drought is a deficit in precipitation and that takes place in all the elements that comprise the hydrological cycle (flow in the rivers, soil mois...

Water is the main option of any development, so having an accurate management of groundwater is necessary. This study has been done in Damghan sedimentary plain in Iran, which is located in northwest of Semnan Province. The main objective of this research was to estimate the rate and right site of recharge in Damghan plain to prevent the aquifer from decreasing the water table. For this purpose...
